Default Cannot Use my Boat - Dock at JWSRP Marina in KY CLOSED - Electrical Issues Not Fixed

Basically nothing I can do but complain. Our houseboat is one of the boats effected due to the issues discussed in the below article. I’ll add that it’s only 1 section of the dock at the marina.

This really started getting bad over a year ago. They replaced the electrical pedestal for 4 boats and this made the problem worse. They shut the power off to those 4 boats and they have not had power for over a year. Our family beside us was one of them. They ran an extension cord to our boat. The park has continued to tell those boat owners excuse after excuse.

Well now the park has determined the whole dock is a hazard and will only allow boat owners to access their boat during work hours M-F. Well I work for a living. The weekends are the only time I can access our boat. It’s a mess and I cannot even wash or maintain it.

I had a missed call from the park on 4/4/23 with no voicemail. On Easter Sunday I stopped by to check on our boat and learn that I cannot access it. A few days later they call and explain the issue, after I found out myself the hard way.

I’ve tried to call and text the park manger for an update. He will not give one(I’ll add I finally spoke with him yesterday 4/26 and I’m no wiser). Trying to make plans for Memorial Day since it doesn’t look like we will be able to use our houseboat. Sucks I may have to rent a place to stay when I have so much money in this boat. From what I’m hearing, I doubt we will be able to use it this summer. Moving it would cost thousands. Lakes nearby typically have a huge waiting list. Its value has decreased since it basically doesn’t have a slip.

In January I paid 6 months of dock rent as required by the state park. In February I paid my annual insurance premium (the state park requires insurance). This week I’ll be paying the state a registration fee for a boat I cannot use. I’ve done my part…

Moving a 14x54’ boat 158 miles wouldn’t be cheap. Then a 4 hour drive one way on the weekends.
I love Cumberland. I take my Fountain to poker run every year.

Well, on the suckiness scale...that rates right up there at the top. Sorry to hear/see you having to deal with this crap. It would seriously torque me off to have to continue to pay for something I can't use, too. And while it's a good sign to read that the officials understand the marina needs to be open, it doesn't sound like much is actually happening at the moment.
One has to wonder if there was...a fire...for instance, if insurance would cover the costs of getting it all up to code and working properly?

I paid my annual registration fee today. If I didn’t by the end of the month, they would add a fee. So that adds to the frustration.
I also bought a jetski last year that I planned to leave at the lake to have something to ride when I didn’t bring my Fountain….
To your insurance comment, good chance yes. But… it wouldn’t be an over night fix.

One of my dock fingers broke a couple years ago from a big wind storm. I think they done a claim on that. Took a year or so to get that replaced.
Our section of dock is the oldest there. Everyone else’s got replaced over the years.

One would ask why are you still at this lake? Well it’s the closest lake to my house so it’s convenient. Also have some good friends there.

Hell man...it's not your fault they got it all screwed up...I really feel for you. I am a person who likes my routines and who goes to great lengths to keep the status quo, and damn...I gotta tell you, I'd be FURIOUS if I was in your position. This is not just a case of 'bend over and take it', oh no...they've added gravel to the Vaseline now!

JTBooten,

I know. I was just shoving an elbow into an already sore spot.

I'm guessing there are no other marinas on the lake?

How about a class action lawsuit? Sounds like the rest of the marina is in the same..... boat. At least to get the money you gave them back? Since it's all government controlled, you'd think they could at least concede your registration fees until you have access again.

Thanks. Brad.

No other marinas. It’s a small lake. It’s actually one section of docks that effect 13 boats.
I talked to the park manager yesterday day and he said the boats have power for charging batteries for pumps. The dock remains closed until the issues are resolved.
I find out this morning that all the boats do not have power and mine is one of them. He did not tell me this nor did anyone from the state park. It has not had electric this whole time the dock has been closed. Now my batteries are dead, probably bad now, and what was is the refrigerator smells awful. I called the park manager out on this. Went no where.
I started talking to someone in Frankfort. Hopefully something positive happens.

Hopefully I do at least get my dock slip rent back.

They turned off the power to our dock early last week. Friday granted us access to our boats. No one has an answer about when we will have electric. Had to run the generator just to wash it Saturday. I doubt I’ll have power this summer.
