First Post!
Newbie to boating, but not to wrenching.
Recently picked up a 1995 Scarab 22 project for cheap. No engine since previous owner blew it up (stuck injector, melted piston).
Was powered by a volvo penta 5.8 (351w) efi with a SXC drive. I sourced a older 260hp 351w motor out of a ski boat which i am doing a refresh on and throwing on better flowing heads and cam.
I have all the efi stuff to swap onto the motor once ready.
However, i do not have a transmission for the boat and need to source one. I am looking for some guidance as to what i should be looking for.
I have searched online and all forums and cannot find the information i am looking for.
plz help

Would probably be a lot easier and cheaper to run a Chevy in there vs the Ford. I think it'll be easier to find V/P parts that way vs sticking with the Ford but that's just my opinion. Looking on the web, seems that the original setup for that time period would have been a fuel injected 5.8L (351W).
When you say transmission, are you referring to the outdrive? The ski boat that supplied the donor engine would use a transmission; the 22 Scarab would not - it uses a direct drive to the propeller using a gear reduction in the upper section of the outdrive (or maybe in the lower - not all that familiar with V/P stuff). Your engine will need the flywheel, driveplate, and the bellhousing (flywheel cover/coupling) that slides into the inner transom plate.
Going back to the engine part, you can probably find an entire Volvo/GM takeout for $4-6k. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...ngine&_sacat=0

As Tomz mentioned you don't need a stand alone transmission.
Some photos of your current engine bay and out drive would help. We don't know what you need...as the roasted engine may have left everything like the bellhousing and starter etc.
What is actually there? Is there an outdrive on the transom?
If you have no outdrive, the Volvo 1995 cutout if it was single prop style should for Merc Bravo 1...or Alpha 1 needs 2 bolt holea drilled. Something like that.
Maybe getting a complete engine takeout would be less hassle and be complete....and probably cheaper on the long run.
