Default oil spill out somewhere from oil dipstick tube

Hello everyone! oil change a mercruiser 5.7 260. vacuum pumped out about warmed 5 qrtz of oil, oil filter remove/replaced. didn't know where to add oil (now i know by either the crankcase ports) so i decided to pump the oil back thru the dipstick tube. pumped 4 qrtz and never saw it come back out the tube. thought all the oil was inside engine until i got out of the boat. all the oil was coming out from the bilge to the ground. so angry. oil so expensive nowadays. check the dipstick see how much oil was in there and prety close to empty, or nothing.

my question is, is the a hole in the dipstick tube? i inserted only about half inch of plastic tubing tight inside the dipstick tube when pumping. 😀. why all the oil doesn't run down to the pan? there wasn't any oil leak prior to this.

any help, advice, comments is appreciated! thank you!

Motor had oil in it because you pumped out about 4 quarts

Put 4 quarts in somewhere and it came out the bilge

It wasn't put in the motor

im not understanding what you're saying, but yes i vacuumed out 5 qtz thru dipstick pipe, manually pumped back in 4qtz thru dipstick pipe and it came out into the bilge and flow to the ground. isn't the dipstick tube goes all the way to oil pan without hole, gap in it?

In theory what you did works, but, the oil cant flow down a small tube that fast by gravity alone. If you had put the plastic tube all the way down, it likely would have worked

the way the dip stick tube attaches to the engine, it's not 'oil tight'. It doesn't have to be, oil never crosses the seal between the tube and the engine. The 'hose' you use to suck oil out, is placed lower than this meeting area, and thus would not leak.

If you tried to force oil in via just the dip stick tube, it would leak out.
It's also a very tiny tube and would take a long time to refill the oil.

there should be a cap that may or may not say oil on one of the rocker covers.
On my 350s it's on the starboard side. That's where you pour oil in.

#18 is the dip stick tube:

#11 is where I fill mine with oil:

Note; these diagrams are for MY engine serial number. yours may vary.

Make sure to thoroughly clean that area of any oil so the RTV gets a good bond.

I think that the insertion was too tight high(not deep enough) and it has back pressure causing to rupture and spill out of tubing passage.
