I think this was the former diesel 39V repowered/updated with triple OB's.
It looks great:

This is Fred K's personal boat. No corners cut on the conversion for sure.

Strange what they did with the bilge and hatch with rear facing seating. Who wants sit rear facing at speed? Don't understand why they didn't just extend the cockpit.

Triple 500R OB V bottoms would run pretty good compared to most old IO packages. And the motors are only going to cost you $225k

Plenty of boats have rear facing seats. Sonic and Fountain made sport boats with rear facing seats. And my Dad always loved facing backwards listening to the motors on my 37' AT. (Granted, it was because he liked the sound of the BBCs.)
I like it. No one says you HAVE to sit back there, but some folks would like it just fine. Maybe not at 90, but nice smooth water cruise at 60 would be fine.

I always wonder how the handling characteristics change when converting to outboards....obviously the CG changes along with several other factors.....great looking boat.

I think the rear facing seats are intended as loungers. My wife loves facing backwards on the tri-toons when we are docked or putting around. Happy wife/happy life....
