Default oil transfer port on a trs but not a SSM #2 drive.

On a TRS drive there is a oil transfer port between the drive and the helmet. On a SSM II drive that transfer port is blocked off on the drive, BUT all the hardware is still there in the helmet up to the oil reservoir. Why is the oil port blocked off on a #2 but not on a TRS? part 11-13 in the # 2

#2 drive

TRS

2 vs part 11-16 on the TRS

Thanks for the vote of confidence

I remember running into that and had the same question. Never did find the answer. One theory is that it allowed the upper gears to run only partially submerged in the gear lube as opposed to completely drowned.
