On a 500 hp plus sbf? Or even sbc. Any actual real comparisons other than what you read online? I’d think the long tube would show real gains in mid and upper rpm but how much and is it worth it

I would say in a car with a full exhaust system you would be hard pressed to notice the difference. If your plan was to unhook the exhaust and take it down the drag strip once in a while then the long tubes would probably have a little advantage but probably not enough to really notice without timers.

have a customer with a 72 Cutlass with a strong 455 and 5 speed. we took off the long tube headers and put on manifolds for a W-30. owner says he can not tell the difference in the power or how it runs so I would agree that you probably will not know the difference with out a timer other than the short headers will not hit every speed bump you encounter.

Thats kinda funny mentioning pot holes (what pot holes?). Joking we have a ton in Michigan. Regardless that was kinda the reason why to be honest along with other obstacles.
Video Deep posted isn’t difficult to believe at all. That brut needs to breathe! Serious hp and rpm. But even then approx 5% gain. So on a 500 hp application you’d be looking a 25 hp + -
I realize there’s so many other factors but in a nutshell if I could care less about times etc and just banging around the hood then go for convenience and looks.
Posting a couple pics of what the local shop did last summer. Please restrain me from throwing them through their front window. They not think I’d ever see this. Wtf

Not sure why pics are hidden on my end. I must have hit something while posting but evidently there up.

Utube must be eavesdropping, went over there and this was at the top of my feed.

Header style ported exh helps maintain velocity and scavenging.
If you have an under valved engine they would help with the 5th engine phase, overlap. Chamber design and intake port will also have an effect.
Main factor is having sufficient exhaust flow potential to not have backpressure choke off the flow and limit your net power.

Unbelievable that any one person or well known shop would do such work. I should’ve done it myself but not the best welder so I farmed it out. I might accept for a demolition derby during local fare week but that’s even questionable.
