Default I bought another boat (unfortunately) off Facebook - Donzi Hornet

Technically, I bought the trailer out of a field and the boat was free, but I’m going to do a full restoration over the coming winters. No rush because I also have my Donzi 16 ( and unfortunately the 22 wellcraft that I also bought off Facebook this month).

Couple questions for you guys to start.

Im assuming this was 454 330 HP mated to TRS. The external gimbal is all still there.

can anyone tell me based off the fact the front motor mounts are 34 inches from the transom whether this was a Merctrans or a BW? I’m going to go aback to TRS for now.

Has anyone lifted the deck off a Donzi? I don’t see where this one is tabbed in anywhere so I think I can just unbolt and lift - I know this is pretty common on Donzi restos.

When you lift the deck off do you need to support the lower hull so it doesn’t flex out (such that you couldn’t get the deck back on or am I over thinking that?

tons more questions to come. Also, I’ve banned myself from my wife’s Facebook Marketplace.

going off memory but believe the trs input shaft for the bw trans is (male) splined while the input shaft on the drive for merctrans is (female) splined internal and has a spring on the end.
pretty sure it's the same female input shaft used on the port drive for staggered trs drives.

So if you have the drive the input shaft will answer your which trans and engine mount location question.
i no longer have trs installation drawings and the mercruiser installation filter online doesn't have it either.

Nice boat

Also, BW 71c's are shorter than than a 72c's. My Panther came with red tag 71c's mated to my TRS 420 Mercs. I can get a distance for that if needed.

unfortunately I don’t have the drive, motor or tranny - only the gimbal.

If you have a way to get the distances that would make my guessing a lot simpler…..

Haha - I bought this ****hole garage/house up the street from me about 5 years ago. It’s got two standard garage doors and a huge commercial roll up on one end that has a 14” I beam across the top. The CIG fits in it by 4 inches. Bought it for less that I could have poured the concrete and bought the cinder blocks.

Crazy thing is county won’t let me tear it down because then I don’t have a “primary structure”, and you can’t have a garage without a primary structure. I understand why they have the code but the house is a disaster!!

[/QUOTE]
Yes. Baronmarine on here had my old Baron 19 sitting around without the deck on it for years with no flex problems as long as it is properly cradled. I l ow that 38 scarab that was redone by a member on this site had concerns but that is a big animal. You should be allright.
