Guys,

With MFG tolerances the way they are today, I really don't see the need to change the oil every 3K miles, especially since switching to AmsOil. It would be nice to be able to change the range it uses to remind you to change your oil. Right now, I'm just only changing the oil every other reset. Anybody know of a way to change the oil life monitor range?

we recommend to our customer and do it each 5000 miles, no matter what.
so its longer than it used to be at 3000 miles
and shorter than the sometime 8000 miles it takes to indicate 0%

we have seen some engine burn a little oil. no problem if customer looks at the level
but some did not and went low on oil and got premature wear, or creamy oil in intake valley and so on...

so.. 5k is a good middle rule of thumb IMO !

FWIW, both of my daily drivers, a Lexus sedan and an F-150: both of their oil change monitors essentially count every 6K miles.

My other street vehicles get changed once a year based on low mileage and use. My Ram 3500 Cummins has oil and fuel filter monitors; and I don’t even come close to 0%.

Changed oil in my truck, ran 500 miles and checked the oil life monitor. It showed 95% remaining and estimated miles 9000. No thanks!
I know it’s over kill but I still shoot for every 3k but if it runs over no big deal.

I have had my 2010 Avalanche for 11yrs now....i have been using full synthetic since the day i got it and only do a full oil change every other "change oil soon" warning...all i do between when it gives me the warning is change the oil filter and top off.
I'll have to dive into my HP tuners and see if theres a way of changing the oil life range somehow....i think i can turn off the warning popping up on the dash...just not sure about changing the time between changes....
Brad on my truck if you go into the information center where it shows how much oil life is left, then press and hold the check mark for a few seconds, it resets it to 100% again.

I've got a 4.3 1500 that only has 104K miles on it. Its getting oil life monitor oil changes, its worked fine for 11 yrs so far. On the underside of the hood I use a magic marker to write down the miles/date of each oil change. Its got a pretty healthy oil leak, might be the rear main so I add a quart a month right now so that is essentially fresh oil between oil changes. Truck runs good but the dash lights seem to flash on/off occasionally (service airbag is the latest). Rust is taking its toll so I don't usually keep trucks past 10 years but Covid prices encouraged me to keep it longer. I hate the new 2.7 turbo motor GM is using in place of the 4.3, high strung turbo motor and aluminum block......what could go wrong GM?

That's pretty much what I'm resolved to do. I've found nothing online about changing the reminder range of the oil life monitor. I just checked the manual, and it doesn't give specific range, but rather states that oil life varies depending on driving conditions. Whatever....

I remember when we had our TrailBlazer we had leased new. It had an inline 6, I wanna say something like 4.7L. The manual suggested an oil change very 3K-12K miles. What I took from that was that 12K miles was OK, but the oil companies were paying them to say 3K.

I think a double oil life cycle between oil changes should be fine. I don't hate the idea of changing the filter at the first interval, though.

I change my oil every 3000 miles with Mobile 1. IMO it is the cheapest part of maintaining a car. I haven't had any engine problems on any car that I have owned, ever. Just my 02
