Savings not worth risk to me. Merc/Quicksiler more money but not much. May be same stuff but I don’t like worrying about it. Only changing it once a year. New drive is 2k-4K if you change it yourself depending on what you have. JMO

Seen it trash light duty cruisers with bravo 3's and 2's. Same shop in South Lake Tahoe would put it in Volvo DP's and any bravo. And shortened the life of the cone clutch in both. Drives were slipping going into gear right before they failed.
i'd spend the money on the Extreme syn (Merc) for any bravo. And run Full syn GL-5 in the volvo. I get GL-6 full syn for a customer with a Imco SC and 600hp and been running no issue on his 26ft Fountain 8 years later.
stick with what the drive calls for, $20-40 savings on gear lube with cost thousands later.

Again, Sierra follows the same specs as the OEMs. As long as it is the right spec, it should do the job just as well as the OEM oil.
A lower unit is a very good place for a synthetic, as Mod points out.
Even in outboard lower units, I run Volvo Penta-spec PAO-based synthetic.
