Default Delco EST module and RPM - Overheating/Failing?

Morning guys.

Hope all had a great weekend! We ended up having a blast despite changing fun run plans due to a fuel gauge issue and a very slow gas pump. We put about 130 miles on the old Formula Saturday so really can't complain.

One thing of interest and I thought I'd being it up for discussion:

I was running down the Jame River about 70 mph. No matter how much I'd trim to I could not get the starboard engine to run over 4600. The port engine would reach about 5000 but wouldn't turn anymore because (I'm assuming) it was being held back by starboard. The water was rather sporty and with the sun being right overhead, I could not read the air/fuel ratio but earlier she was rich upstairs - upper 11's wot.

The engines are really strong, gets up on plane with authority, and shoots to 60 without much effort at all, and sound awesome doing it. At this point I think we've got about 50 hours on them. No odd noises - valvetrain sounds good.

My thoughts swing toward ignition - either the module or maybe the coil. I know the Delco ESTs are pretty much bulletproof but these are older. Anyone experience similar when these things are getting long in the tooth? I have new modules to swap out but I'd like some confirmation in my thinking.

Voltage does affect these try feeding the coil purple directly from the battery and test many put a relay in the power wire so it gets more power

Will be a little bit of a pain to rewire, but having a relay would ensure that it's getting full voltage. I will try that along with replacing the coil and modules - I'm pretty sure they're due after 25 years.
