Default Seven Marine 627 Powerheads

How much work would it be to utilize them in place of inboard Chevy big blocks?

The mounts and headers etc I’ve got my mind around but what about the engine ecu? Also it seems the entire control system runs on ZF SC5000 controllers and throttle shift control etc. Any chance this can be adapted to shift a bravo 1 with an actuator? I’m just running the cost vs benefit through my head.

They are LS motors, you can buy LS marine motors from several people.

you may consider the cost of doing the work on the seven marine compared to just getting some already setup.

yes, far easier to build your own LS to marine specs or source a LS marine powerplant (Crusader, Ilmor, VP, and the list goes on). I built my own to marine specs b/c they were not very common a few years back (and I saved a wad of cash). i got the LS for free and then i tore it down to block and rebuilt to marine specs. the specs on that 7 marine look great on the engine. I'm pretty sad those guys went under, i thought they had the makings of a great product. If memory serves, somebody (VP?) bought them out and shut them down.

if you have the knowledge and know-how go for it. but be ready for headaches. every powerhead i've pulled on an OB i swear will be my last but never is.

.

Volvo Group (that owns Volvo Penta) bought them out and shut them down...all due to stupid Green initiatives to appease the tree huggers and try to become net-zero emissions.........dumb asses

Yah just too much trouble to deal with the zf integration. Moved on from this idea already.

I hear you on that. I opted to bolt a flywheel (I’d recommend an aluminum one but I did steel during Covid). A big block Mercruiser coupler connects to a bravo assembly. Also need a big block rear bell housing it mostly bolts up just need to add one hole in bottom corner. Super simple if you know what you’re doing. I’m running a b3 but any bravo would work (check hp first).

but a tranny would be nice. But as you pointed out the issues in setup were just too big to sort it out. That 627 looks like a 6.2 supercharged engine (LSA) but your exhaust will be most expensive piece of a swap like this.

anyway good luck and probably a good decision.

The owners of Seven Marine probably sold the company because they knew what Mercury had coming.

Volvo probably shut down the company when they say what Mercury had coming.

Expensive mistake…

A few videos on why the plugged was pulled. Here is one that makes a lot of sense.
