Dilemma - Bullet Engine Choices
#1
Guys, I'm trying to get my planning done on power options between the Bullet and the 311. The goal is to get the 311 down the road with enough funds to complete the deal and add bank for the work needed on the Bullet.
Current setups:
First thought is to wrap up some odds and ends on the 311 and sell it the way she is - this would probably get the best dollars for what it is and provide a bigger bank for the Bullet's needs; leave the Bullet as is with the blowers and raw water cooling. Should be more than fast enough!
But....
I love what I built for the 311 (not to say I couldn't do similar later with the Bullet) and since I need to pull the port engine to swap the transmission that's leaking anyway, I could pull all four, remove the blowers from the 468s and swap into the 311 (should still be a mid-60 MPH boat). Then swap the 509s into the Bullet with all its closed cooling and less hassle of the blowers and have an easy to run Bullet. I would then save the blowers for down the road or sell.
I think the smart direction would be the first option. We're mainly going after restorative work - half of the cockpit needs to be redone as well as the instrument panel and she needs a repaint. I'm sure there's stuff that will be uncovered (there always is). It's a long list but doable. Those are the biggest items outside of finishing rigging and fixing things that have needed attention while being out of the water for seven years (wow, it's been that long?!). Fortunately, the boat has spent most of its life stored indoors so structure-wise she's brick sh!thouse solid.
What do you guys think?
One last thing: I have to give a public shoutout to Wayne Murden (Hollowpoint) for passing the torch! I'm honored, thankful, and beyond stoked to be keeping her in the family. Let's go find your next boat, pal!
Current setups:
- 311 - 509s, AFR 325s, .650, 235/231, 113 hydraulic roller, closed cooling, CMI E-tops - dry to the transom hoses (will stay with the boat), somewhere at 600 hp or so.
- Bullet - 468s, 188 iron heads, 500 EFI rollers, B&M 250s w/twin 800s, Stainless Marine manifolds with 4.5 risers, raw water cooled, dyno'd at 670 hp at 57-5800 (sheets not in front of me). A mountain of torque though.

Tom - assume you have TRS drives on the 311?
if you have extra TRS parts I might be interested for a Donzi project - I know a lot of TRS guys have spare stuff accumulated…..
honestly - I think I’d swap motors. I know you’d give up some value on the 311 sale but you’d have a great Closed Cooling base in the bullet.

Hey Tom,
Id swap motors and sell the 311 with a single carb. Should still bring in good money., solids power package, almost what it would have been stock with the 420 package.
With all the other work you mentioned on restoration of the bullet, you can at least say you have a solid, engine platform, like was mentioned. Of course as you had already mentioned to me, can always put the blowers on the 509 and really be cooking.

Still thinking on the engine situation. The boat ran really well with the torque the blowers made. The 509s aren’t making 600 ft lbs from 3k and to 5500 and this boat loves torque.

True though… these engines would upgrade the original 420 package nicely. And live forever.
