Default Borg warner velvet drive question

I have a borg warner velvet drive transmission...I had a leak where the oil return line from the cooler returns into the lower right hand side of the unit. From the transmission out, there was a threaded bushing into the transmission, an angled brass fitting threaded into the bushing, and the rubber flex hose with flared fitting attached to the angled fitting. I wasn't sure where the leak was so decided to open up all three and seal the threads with permatex thread sealing. I disconnected the flared fitting no problem. I unthreaded the angled fitting from the bushing no problem. When I unthreaded the bushing from the transmission once the bushing was free a spring then a washer came out. At least i think it was in that order, what is the purpose of the spring and washer? a flow restrictor? does the washer go in first, the the spring then the bushing?

Please advise....any help would be appreciated....

Washer goes in first then the spring. There is a screen in there. It holds in in place.

So I checked for the screen...I see now on a drawing that there is a tube style strainer installed on some models...I could not find it, i'm trying to find a part number....to install one...if it had the spring and washer, it probably had to strainer...
