Default Tennessee people. Free to float? What’s known about this?

Got this email today from my local marina I keep my cruiser at and have been a part of for 30+ years.

Any fellow Tennesseans heard or seen anything of this?

I need your urgent help to protect my Freedom to Float!

Bureaucrats at the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) are trying to dictate how long someone like me can spend on their boat.

I love the lake when the weather is nice or I just want to escape the hustle and bustle. Whenever I want to!

But now the USACE is citing non-relevant Army policies to say that I don’t have that “whenever” right. They want to limit how many days I can float!

What harm is being done to the American public if boaters who pay for a 1-year slip come and go as they please on their vessel? The answer is simple – there is no harm.

To ensure American lakes do not become a place of infringed rights, please work to include clear and concise language in WRDA of 2024 that protects our freedom to float.

Thank you for your time and work to protect my freedoms!

I don't know how one has the time to make the website and spread the word but doesn't put the actual proposed legislation out there. Fake news without it

That was my first thought also. But that's TVA lakes.
Who knows if that's what they are talking about?

I agree, that thorough but no link or article to any of the proposed legislation.
Almost some sort of phishing scam for addresses and email.

Default .

I have asked and asked around everyone I know to ask here with little to no knowledge. My marina sent this message Friday from another email I suppose? Sorry I don’t have much information either honestly.

here is the actual email....from the Corps

I apologize for the delay in response. You raise some valid questions. Although the current 30/60-day rule set forth in ER 405-1-12 specifically applies to camping, the Nashville District’s intention in applying this rule to vessels is to limit these stays to transient use since part- or full-time occupancy or residence is prohibited by ER 405-1-12. In the absence of guidance defining “full or part-time residence, Nashville District believes it is reasonable to consider anything over the 30-day stay in a 60-day period is part- or full-time occupancy. For our Corps run facilities, this length of stay is further restricted to 14 days in a 30-day period. The reason these restrictions exist is to protect life, health, and marine safety, as well as ensuring amenities and facilities a reasonable degree of public availability

I think its a scam. No real information on website. USACE doesn't have any live-aboard rules. Their Facebook page is listed as a not for profit but do not have a not for profit standing with the IRS (which it could still be in process as it is a "new" organization). Their website WhoIs listing is blocked (not a killer but most orgs want you to be able to reach them so they can do their mission.)

They really seem to just seem to target boaters and say "government bad!!!"

Reads like a scam/manipulation to me.

EDIT: After clicking the sign me up. They are asking you to support amending the WRDA of 2024 bill to include live-aboard protections. Which passed in July of 2024, yet this organization wasn't started till September of 2024. (They apparently have time machine authority to change bills after they have passed. That isn't how government works.) Seems like they are farming contact info of boaters.
