What is under this wood? Is is covering something like a seam between two molded parts? I see the wood plugs where screws are, but is it glued on as well?
For a X-mas gift to us both, my wife bought a Yeti with wheels and telescoping handle that matches the red on the boat. We were both sad and disappointed today when we tried to get it into the cabin. The cooler's wheels clear, but the handle needs another 1/2".
I'm thinking maybe replace the cracked and dated 3/4" wood with something like PVC, stainless, or aluminum that's a 1/4 or 1/8" . This will give it a much cleaner look and get the clearance we need.

Modify - no. They will come off with 6 screws though. The handles only hit at the top where the cooler is the widest. Kinda sucks because this was a surprise to me and the first big purchase of something for boating fun and not boat restoration related.
