Default Mercruiser 7.4 Rear Engine Mount Reinstsllatiom

I had to pull my engine to do some work on it and have just put it back in my 1992 Baja 236. I
am having problems with the rear engine mounts on the flywheel housing. First, getting the nuts in the right position with the exhaust pipes in the way is a magic trick, and when I finally got one in place I was able to push the bolt down the rest of the way in, but I was not able to get the bolt in enough to reach the threads. The bolt has a washer and spacer before it is inserted. Does anyone have any suggestions?:

If the bolt went all the way down without enginging threads you probably knocked the nut back off. I like to put the nuts in before lowering the engine in and then put a piece of tape to prevent them from falling out.

I was able to hold one underneath, but what I’m guessing is that they somehow fit up in a hex space somehow. That makes perfect sense since when I took the bolts out I did not need a wrench to keep them from spinning. The idea of putting them in and holding them in with tape is great. I may have to pull the engine back out of if I can’t slide them up in those holes that I am envisioning. Thanks!!

You can also use a single layer of masking tape on the large fiber washer and lock washer thing (looks like a really short spring) to hold them in place on the transom plate. After lowering eng down on rear mounts, push the bolts thru the masking tape.

just tape the nuts in place the wont spin while being tightened, it will self align when the unthreaded tapered part of the bolt enters the nut, if they wont reach the nut you have something miss alinged
