Anyone have experience with merc sae 90 gear lube in a cone clutch OMC king cobra? I have used the ultra hpf before and the volvo penta 80-90, but the ultra hpf is hard to find and the volvo penta is almost double the price of what I can get the merc gear lube for.

If it's a true King Cobra it has a cone clutch that's different than a Bravo. Additives in Merc fluid don't play well with clutch. Synthetic 90 like goes in Volvo outdrives is what you want I believe.

I just run Mercury HP lube with no problems.
