Default "PORT SYNC" and "STBD SYNC" switches on dash on a Scarab???????

I have an 1980 Wellcraft Scarab and on the dash there are two SPST toggle switches that are labeled "PORT SYNC'" and "STBD SYNC" The boat also has the factory Medalion Sync gauge between the two tachs. Does anybody know what the purpose of the toggle switches were? There is no mechanical engine sync module on the boat, BUT the boat did have a auto power trim box under the dash that wasnt connected anymore.
