I thought Mercury was trying to get away from the complexity created by having engines at very tight hp intervals.

Now, there is a 400 and a 425...

I thought that too, but maybe they are not a “racing” engine and meant more for cruiser style boats?

You are right. There is a 400 hp V10 racing engine and a more powerful 425 hp V10 fishing engine.

Somewhat counter-intuitive.

The 400R was a 414 or 418 EPA rating iirc. The 425 has the same raised redline. Might be nothing more than a sticker job to sell 400R as the 425 verado.

Would be cool if we get a 450R V10 though. Yamaha is making that HP with the same displacement

But unfortunately Yamaha is making that 450hp with an additional 250lbs of weight added.

They are tanks aren’t they. Nice that Merc V10 doesn’t weigh much more than the L6 and makes more torque and gets better fuel economy.

Im excited to see a 350 NA V8. The V10 is a bit larger than I’m comfortable with mounting but the V8s weigh less than my Suzuki V6s.

it is nice. Honestly it’s pretty mind boggling they can produce a v10 option at that light of weight.

I feel that NA 350 is going to be nice, very reliable too.

I'm confused. As the owner of a "non enhanced" 350 v10, what is enhanced on the new version ?The numbers look identical to me. And who are they referring to in the article as a "competitors". The old versions of these motors?

I can see the additional 25 HP on the 425 since they raised the redline at WOT.
