Default Electric Fuel Pumps

I installed Aeromotive 11211 marine fuel pumps with Aeromotive 13215 marine fuel regulators.
pumps are mounted just below the top of the tanks on the bulkhead.
I ran a -8 an from the tank to a 100 micron pre filter, to the pump and into a Teague billet fuel water separator, from there -8an to the regulator and from regulator to carb -6 to each fuel bowl.
The problem Im having is the pump seems to loose it’s prime if the boat sits for a couple of weeks. Almost like it’s air -bound. I have to disconnect either the line into the regulator or one of the -6an lines and pump fuel into a container. After that it seems to be fine.
Has anyone had any similar experiences? Or have any suggestions?

I would go through and make sure all your fittings pre pump are tight

I was having this issue with mine originally and to make things worse, my boat has dual tanks and single engine through an imco fuel switcher valve. I ended up installing -8 an check valves inline at the tank fittings and haven't had an issue since. I think they were earl's checks if I remember correctly.

had that same pump in a customers boat. one always worked fine, the other did the same thing as yours. if it sat for a week or two it would lose it's prime and you had to fight with it to get it pumping again. once it worked it was fine so long as it was used every day. sent it in for repair and still the same problem. bought another pump and it seemed to fix the problem. still dont know what was wrong with the first pump and I have not used aeromotive pumps since then as I had a different model aeromotive pump in a car do the same thing and now I dont really trust their quality.

I actually talked to the Aeromotive tech department asking them if I could use a check valve and they said they didn’t recommend it, said it sometimes causes more problems than if fixes.
I'm probably going to give this a try.
Thanks!

JEGS 555-150022: -8 AN One-Way Fluid Check Valve | -8 AN | Opening Pressure: 5 PSI | Operating Pressure Range: 5-1500 PSI | Operating Temperature: -30-Degrees to 400-Degrees F | Overall Length: 3.750 in. | Billet Aluminum | Back Anodized Finish - JEGS

These are the ones I used...Russell is the brand they copied them from and Earl's also makes some

Yeah, that’s a known issue with some external pump setups, especially when mounted above the tank. Even though they’re self-priming to a degree, sitting for a while can let air sneak in or cause fuel to drain back, especially if there’s no check valve in place. Try adding a check valve between the pump and tank to help it hold prime.

another option is to just put a loop in the fuel line between tank and pump,,,,
fuel cannot drain back to tank and less components to act up
1 way valves are nice but also the ck ball can stick if sets up for weeks
and the rubber flapper designed 1s the rubber deteriates and warps in time from the alcy in pump gas
loop in hose is simple fix
