Default 496 air drain system leaking?

2002 496HO I notice water in bilge after running but not when boat is docked unused for days. I have heard some owners remove/fix the system. My guess it takes several run hours to accumulate a few gallons. That said educate me!

The system is definitely prone to failure. I removed it all on my 350 Mag.

I would not abandon it. It’s very useful.
The actuators that open with air pressure, have springs in them that weekend, overtime, and water pressure can push them open.

They sell rebuild kits for them.
