Despite significant structural changes, the Florida Powerboat Club’s 33rd Emerald Coast event pleased most of the participants, https://www.speedonthewater.com/emer...nt-trajectory/

Gotta be honest, the open format of a "fun run" over a "hurry up and wait" / strict timeline of a poker run is WAY better. Smart for Stu to adjust and I think in the long run his participants will end up enjoying this format more. Not only does it take a lot of the liability off the organizers, it takes a lot of the stress out of it for participants. Change always takes some getting used to, but like I said, I think most will come to embrace this style of event.
Question is - Is this the new format for all poker runs for FPC, Key West included?

The format Supercat Fest West (Riverdave) uses is very user friendly. Centrally located gathering point. Street party. Designated helicopter flight times for photos and video (as in, "the helicopter will be up and running back and forth on this route if you want to get some video time), then a designated lunch spot that is open to all attendees from this time to that. No specific time to be there. So, essentially, FPC could say for the KW run. party the night before at the hotel in Miami. Designate lunch will be served at Key Largo from 1100-1400 and at Islamorada 1200-1500 or something like that. Helicopter will be flying up and down full course to and from key west to pick up photos and videos of boats. Party like usual once you're in KW. No official poker run. Or, you can give a card the night before leaving and give cards at the lunch stops or you can gather your cards in KW. Leave the "schedule" completely open and let boaters roll out as they please, instead of in a huge group. Would make logistics, management and LIABILITY so much easier.
Catalina fun run does the same type of thing. Basically, meet up in Huntington beach. Run to Catalina. Stay the night. Do a tie up at the island the next day. Cruise home as you wish following day.
It's doable to get away from the liability I'd think as long as you open up the travel part to open ended. No times and groups set by the club. Just point a to point b whenever you feel like it.
