Default Dock line covers to prevent paint chafing

Just had my boat back up to MitcherT to correct some paint blemishes and one I would like to prevent going forward is from dock lines rubbing over the paint when rafting up. I bought a set of NorthGear line covers and to be honest, they look like they are made to protect dock lines, not the paint (the outside wrap is a semi rough polyester mat)...I saw a product from Chafe-Pro called the wooly which looks like it might be better, but maybe someone here found a prodcut they are happy with?

I wrap mine with a microfiber towel to protect my paint.

A trick I was shown was to put the loop through the back of the cleat so the line goes over the top of the cleat, keeping it off the paint. Works in some situations.

^^^^^ Both are correct...

Reverse the hitch keeps the line off the paint "most" of the time.

If your tying up to a lower area though, this will not work. I just use a microfiber in this instance.

Yeah, I have been using the microfiber towels under the lines, even saw a post where someone had a hole in the microfiber towel which would accomodate the cleat, keeping the cloth in place even when the rope slacks...Flipping the loop so the line runs over the cleat might help in some situations...was hoping someone had first hand experience with a product solution.

If you are looking for a specific product, it would be Chafe-Pro. I use soft foam tubes, similar to what comes with those bungie dock lines. Never had any scuffs or wear on the hull with them

Small pool noodles would work as well, depending on the material

I can't imagine ANY cover being softer than the lines themselves...what are you using for lines...100% sisal? All my lines are buttery soft.

Your pulling lines over gelcoat, not the same as pulling lines over paint.

Great for cruisers or sail boats, don't think I've ever seen them on performance boats.
