500 EFI Fuel Rail Schrader Valve Connection
#1
My 500 EFI has a schrader valve mounted on the starboard side fuel rail about mid-engine. It's angled 45 degrees down and very hard to connect with a hand held fuel pressure tester due to the very tight working space for my fingers to align and then screw the tester's female conector to the schrader valve.
Does anyone have a solution? I want to retain the schrader valve for pressure relief purposes (eg vapor lock). Perhaps a 90 degree schrader valve connecter that would facilitate an easier tester connection. There are many tire valve stem 90 degree schrader valve connectors but I have yet to find one for the larger GM fuel rail valve. Summit Racing had a few but they didn't look compatible for General Motors EFI.
Thanks for the help!

I have a fuel injector cleaning kit, the one you hook on the rail and connect to a can of cleaner, and it has a lot of different connectors as well as a couple 90 degree adapters so I am sure they are made. maybe look at parts for a kit like I have. I can look tomorrow for the brand if that helps.

Unfortunately I spoke to soon on its availability! A handfull of websites list and price the part but then state direct ship from Actron (which no longer makes the part). I will see if there's another source.

Have you thought of maybe doing an extension off the connector? Ive seen one before where the guy took the schrader valve out and put connected an extension going to a gauge so he can view fuel psi at the motor while running....Install a "T" behind the gauge for another schrader valve for service work etc and no more weird angles to try and connect to

Can you take the Schrader valve out? If it's a threaded-in part (likely 1/16 or 1/8 NPT), an elbow could be sourced or commissioned that would solve the problem.
Thanks. Brad.

Never one to shy away from a metal-off solution, one could always pull the rail, drill and tap it for NPT wherever in the Hell it needs to be, and install an NPT Schrader valve. Just sayin’….
Thanks. Brad.

Another thought…..
What about modifying or making a replacement for #13, to include a NPT port? If it’s NPT itself, the problem becomes REALLY easy to resolve.
Thanks. Brad.
