Like everyone else, I am sitting here wishing it was April, and wondering what I should think about going to in the future.
Heck, ain't never even got the H2X in the water yet!
But every time I see a pic of a 20 or 33 outlaw, I get this kinda funny feelin' like, that'd be waaay cool.
My question is this. I will probably be getting a different truck this year, and I've never pulled a boat bigger than 27' with my truck, so whadya think? Is this enough truck for a 29? a 33?
F150 4X4 SC, 5.4, tow, 17" wheels, big tranny, trac lok
or do I need to think about going to a 250

I've taken my boat (about 9000- 9500 lbs with trailer) at 65mph behind an Expedition (5.4L). I won't go too far or often. I put two of the three axle surge breaks on the trailer. I like to know I can stop!!!

In our business we deal a lot with service factors. For example a 1.0 service factor means the part is designed to just meet the needed requirements. A 1.5 service factor is 50% better (stronger), and so on. When designing a conveyor system I always give my customers at least a 1.5 service factor.
If you have an 8000 pound load and your truck is only rated at 8000 lbs you don't have any service factor, or in better terms safety factor. It will do the job, but what if something out of the ordinary happens?
When you are out on the highways today, just think about how many times you are cut off, how often you have to make a panic stop or panic maneuver. It is not something you want to practice with an expensive boat behind you, but when it happens you want to know and have peace of mind that your equipment won't let you down.
We were cut off in a work zone entering into Florida on our last trip, and once again I was very happy that I had a Myco trailer designed for my boat, and a Ford F-350 dually with the longest wheel base they make.
When we delivered the boat to the dealer I told him what happened and how it scared us and how lucky we were. The first thing out of his mouth was "it was not luck, you have the right equipment for the job".
I fell strongly about this. Luck favors the prepared.

I pulled my boat with a z71, plenty under the rated weight, but I kept having transmission problems.
I would drive it up and down hills, and it would shift back and forth back and forth. It heated it up so much it went out. I took it to the dealer, first thing they said was the boat weighed too much. I got the specs from Baja, then they said I needed a bigger truck this one was going to keep doing the same thing. What the F***? It says it will do it right?
Bought an F-250 with the powerstroke. NO COMPARISON. Pulls better, stops better, handles the boat better, and it has enough torque it doesnt have to shift up and down on the hills.
If I had it to do again, I would have bought the F250 in the first place. The 1/2 tons are nice, have a smoother ride, but in the long run its worth it

you definetly need a larger p/u.like doc said its better to have to much then not enough.i pull my 33 with a 2002 3/4 ton dodge cummins 4x4.it pulls it great.got almost 12 miles to the gallon when pulling my boat from ft woth to houston and back.averaged almost 80 mph...good luck..

I pulled my 33 with a 94 surburban without any problems. It was real doggy starting from a stop but once it was rolling it was fine. My trailer has electic disc brakes on all three axles so stopping was never an issue. The suburban had 190 horses so My guess is your Ford has more than that. I did replace the sub with a 350 p/s last summer but the only difference other than dead stop starting that I notice is the improved fuel economy.

This brings up a good point. I bought my f250 psd and the salesman have so much smoke up their ass its crazy.
What is everyone getting when pulling a big load with these.
I get 10.5 to 11 at BEST. I do have 35" tires and heard that affects it a little, but I hear people say they get 17 w/o trailer and 15 with. How the hell do you get 2 miles an hour less when your pulling a load, and you have to take the trans. out of overdrive.
