Had one done years ago when I broke a tooth. A couple of years later, I bumped it and had to have the canal redone. Now I have two pins in it. Didn't even take any novicane for the second job.

Default Sorry, feel your pain

I had the same thing done last year and I did not enjoy it. I had a pin put in mine also. I hope this is my last. At least it doesn't hurt anymore

Pain after having a root canal comes from 2 possible sources. 1) There is a lot of inflammation around the ligament space due to all the up and down trauma to the ligament during the procedure and the fact that some debris gets pushed through the apex of the root while cleaning the canal. or 2) If the tooth was infected prior to the procedure there might be some infection left which will cause hydraulic pressure.....pain. A great pain reliever if you can take it is 800 mg. Motrin every 6 hours. This is 4 over the counter Advil. Must take several doses for full effect. If your dentist Rx'ed a narcotic pain reliever you can take this along with the Motrin. If they prescribed another NSAID you can not. In my experinence this works the best! Things should improve over the next day or two. Also getting out and working on your boat will always help.
Good Luck!
Eric

I damned near punched the oral surgeon after he started. All he
kept doing was apologizing. I kept saying, "numb the f***r"
Never could get to be numb all the way. Never again. Next time
just pull it.

I've had two of them. It was no worse than getting a haircut.
