Question Vera Water Injection system

I think Edlebrock called it their "Vera" or Verra" (spelling?) Water Injection system. Has anyone heard of or used this water injection system in the past? I think it was produced by Edlebrock in the 1980's and I know of at least one marine engine building shop in the Detroit area that liked using them. I think they helped to deter engine detonation---but I can't remember anymore. What are the PRO's and CON's of these systems and are they still being used today? Was it more of a gimmick or did it serve its function well? Thanks in advance.

Mark -- I think it helped to cool the combustion temp and also increased compression

I remember scads of water injection systems in the Banks Turbo days of the 80's.

I've never heard of a system doing anything "wrong" other than running out of water at inopportune times (like when that dad gum bass boat just shot you a bird and rocketed away).

I know a guy who ran 14# of boost in a pair of turbo big blocks and ran water injection with good results.

I used to run "Vara-jection" on my big block MOPARS and it worked really well. Buying 93 octane was expensive so I used to use regular and water injection and never had a ping problem. This is with a 13.5 to 1 motor that I used to drive to work. Fill it up with 93 on the weekend and let er rip

I have looked for systems recently and they have computer controlled gizmos, etc for turbo cars but they basically do the same thing. All the Varajection did was watch vacuum and rpms, when vacuum drops and rpms go up(accel) it sprays water through really tiny ports into the carb. RPM and vacuum points were adjustable by the user. I used to use about a gallon of water for 20 gallons of fuel.

As an added benefit when I tore down the motors there was virtually no carbon on the pistons-keeps the rings free

I have had similar experiences to Mcollinsts and Insptech. I used and liked the Edelbrock piece, but J&S had one I liked better. The only problem I had was having people forget to refill them and using tap water in them. The tap water would clog the nozzles and cause the system to fail. Used windshield wahser fluid with great success

Most of the Automotive water injection systems pumps are designed for short durations (15 to 30 sec ) not for continuos use!!!

dyno, I would use them. The customer is always right! Most people won't keep the water bottle full and aren't careful about what they fill them with. "nobody else uses them" comes up also and I just got tired of fighting it.
There are pumps available that can run for long periods, just cost more.

Thumbs up Thanks for your input gang!

So then they are NOT ALWAYS USED while the engine is running, but rather only under certain RPM or WOT conditions I take it---right?

Cruising along at let's say just before the 4 barrels start kicking in---about 4000rpm or so, how much water (in gallons) could a person expect to use in a boat? Or is it needed more at WOT only???

Does it resemble something like a NOS kit/set-up like some sort of little plate that goes in between the carb and intake?

Is it a pain to install?

Is it a pain to maintain?

Is water injection practical/feasible?

How many gallons does a tank hold?
