My home PC has Win98 on it and I'd like something a little more stable, plus its about dang time for an upgrade. I was trying to decide between XP and 2000 Pro and I think I've got my mind set on 2000 PRO.

Ok should I just covert FAT to NTFS or just to a complete install of it. I don't want to loose all the stuff I have on it now.

I prefer to do a fresh operating system install if possible. It seems like upgrades act flakey and if you are having problems now they will resurface.

I always do a fresh install . I have been runnning XP at home and really like it.

FRESH man I do this all day at work, too many issues if you upgrade.

Yeah I agree....I've done a few with no problems to speak of yet at work....but I agree with you, fresh is always better.

fresh install of W2K is the way id go.......i do computers for a living and thats what i run at home. Work just had us all upgrade to XP, and I prefer W2K by a mile.

I say go with XP Pro. All the auto updates and stuff just works smoother.

I usually do upgrades, but if you can save your data files and you have all your software install disks, go fresh.

If you upgrade, run the compatibility checker first and go grab the latest XP drivers from your coputer's website and store tem in their own directory. Uninstall any Norton stuff and virus software. Then run your upgrade. After the upgrade, reinstall the drivers from the mfr, then do about twenty Windows updates to get back to speed.

I've got 3 W2k boxes at work, two 98SE's, and 14 XP Pros. Just seems like W2k is going by the wayside... I'm an old NT4 holdout that likes XP pro just fine.

Oooh, ooh, if you do an upgrade, you'll need to convert to Fat32 before you do an XP upgrade. After your'e done you can either stay FAT32 or convert to NTFS.
