Thumbs up Cool TCM project on a 38'SC in Powerboat

Cool write up...
In this months Powerboat Mag, Teague Custom Marine does a build up on a 38' Fountain SC with 502MPI's.
They took it from 62 to 81mph with innercooled Vortechs pumpin 5#s, CMI's, IMCO boxes and TCM XR/-2 IMCO lower drives.
I really liked the artical because we did about the same thing to our 42' Fountain but with 557ci blower motors over the Merc HP525SC's...so far we are at +17mph.
But they never told what power the Vortech'ed 502MPI's made with 5#'s?
Im thinking around 725HP each at the cranks...any ideas?

Back 4 - I havnt got my issue in the mail yet but Im amazed they did ANYTHING with a twin engine boat.......in the project department its ALWAYS a single......Pachanga build up, two prop tests, k planes, their Formula project boat....just off the top of my head.......yet month after month they test big buck multi engine boats and glamourize them (as they should) in the Poker Run coverage then ignore them in the project dept............doug (maybe my *****ing is getting through!!)

502MPI's with 5# boost would give no more than 625hp, I would think. Didn't read the article, though, if they went inside the motor and changed goodies, I could be way off.

The 575SCi has a better cam and runs 4 to 5 pounds. Granted, a centrifugal should eat less horsepower to drive it, and the cooler will allow the timing to be a bit friendlier to hp, but still...

Power is about 600-625. Shorter drives and stand off boxes helped increase top speed with the extra power. Proably would've been closer to 10-15mph with just SC install.

Thanks,
Dustin
