Did a leak down on my engine last fall. Motor was ran just b-4 leak down test. Results:
*Leakdown***Compression
1-5%***********185
3-4%***********190
5-3%***********195
7-25%**********163
2-3.5%*********188
4-6%***********193
6-9%***********189
8-6%***********185
Compression test done yesterday
Motor has 235 hours on it. Leak on # 7 cyl. was on exhaust valve. N/A motor, Crane 731 cam with alum heads.
Should I remove heads and do a valve job, or wait till more hours are on the motor to do Rings, bearings, valve springs, etc. When (hours) and what (parts) should be done. I know this my vary according to who has hold of the stick!
Driving habits are mostly cruising in the 2500 to 3000 rpm range and WOT is in short burst. Change oil every 20 to 30 hours.

I found with my engine, that the valves went bad very quickly. With that much leakage, I doubt that you'll get another season out of the motor. I'd lets do a valve job.

Further thought-Mike, you said that you cruise at the 2500-3,000rpm range. Do you know at what point your secondaries open at? I know that from my dyno run, the engine was happy until a point just before the secondaries opened. At that point the motor really leaned out. It wouldn't be a problem, unless you actually held the rpms to that point. I'm just wondering if that could be the source of your burned valve.

I know that is not the same as being in the boat but fuel was set up not to be lean in any position on the dyno. I'm pretty sure the secondaries are not in at those rpms. I have always noticed that the CMI tube on #7 was always a little warmer than the others. I didn't really know why just thought it was less water to that tube.
