Default I Blew a motor...

Over the weekend and think I will take the opportunity to upgrade. I am looking at long blocks (I have new CMI's, carbs and alternators) and would like some opinons. Old motors are 454 420's and want to go to 502 500's. I have found a site, www.1800runsasnew.com and they look like they put out a good product. $5600.00 for re-man long blocks. Has anyone used these guys and are they any good? Any other suggestions?

Mongo,
Sorry to hear about your troubles.

I don't have any experience with 1800runsnew myself, but I do remember some guys on this board having some problems with their products. Hopefully others will add to this..

I'm looking at the same 502.
Talked to them (Marine Engines) today and according to them they have lost only one out of approx. 180 of these engines.
It's a great price. Cheifs at $8100 with intake and carb..
Keep posting, I need help making this decision.

RLW,

What "pros and cons" have you heard? Where they from someone who has bought motors and is using them or another source?

Convincor,

I saw the Chiefs also. The 5600 price doesn't include manifolds or carbs, but, my manifolds (rect port) and carbs (new 800 Holleys) will work. Carbs and manifolds are 800 total for each motor any way. That is still a lot less.

Read the fine print in the warranty (on the Recon motors anyway). They don't cover $h!t! They have an "out" for almost any common problem you may experience on a poorly built motor, even oil consumption. Heck, if you want, i'll find a big block from a truck at the local junkyard, paint it, even put billet valve covers on it for the same price and honor the exact warranty. Hell, i'll even through in an intake and carb for the same price! I have no personal experience with this company and may be a little sarcastic here but I would definitely check with others who know more about them first. Doug Russel Marine has some reasonable priced motors for nearly the same prices. I wonder if it's the same company.

Had a chat with Doug Russel today.
The re-manufactured 502 that they sell are built by a local engine shop, not a big company re-builder.
They have "new GM long block 8.2L" for $5995.
1 year warranty.
New GM vs. Rebuilt buy someone that does't have a good rep.,
think I might go new.
A little less power, but it's new.......

The Runsnew 502, 435 hp motors are brand new. I bought 2 of them and they are great.
