Question Powdercoating?

I have a set of aluminum valve covers that I was thinking of powdercoating. What are the advantages and disadvantages of powdercoating? How does this compare to Paint (imron). I called Eddie Marine and they said $45.00 for a pair. Has anybody had anything powdercoated from them? Thoughts or Comments?

I had my K-planes powder coated and although they came out well I do not think that they are as durrable as the orriginal finish. From what I hear the environment that the stuff is applied and baked is real critical.

Yeah Jon thats why I was kinda wondering about Eddie Marine. I figure they do alot of powdercoating for manufacturers so I figure they should have a reputation.....

I use Air Born in East Hartford or Colorlife in Hicksville, NY
I've coated parts on cars , bikes, and most recently the aluminum helm seat brackets, and everything I've had done looks great and has lasted, (on the bike frame three rebuilds!)

I had my intake and T-stat housing done. Also B&B polished aluminum valve covers done in clear powdercoat because I didn't feel like polishing them every week.
Had them done locally.
Slingshot does it for a living , try him.

The price was for the pair. They are L31 Vortec valve covers. They are for a sbc. The price quoted was for powdercoating. I Think they call it fusioncoating though....He said they can match just about any color and If I sent a sample he could get real close...Hi-perf2000 why clear?

If they are polished alluminum a clear coating will protect them, and still give them the polished look. But if you want them colored, you can powder them with a translucent powder which will actually let the polished alluminum show though slightly and give it a bright candy look. i have most of the stuff on my boat powdered in a translucent purple.
