Default Adjusting Float Level

Need help here guys....Edelbrock recomends a float drop of 15/16 to 1" between the airhorn gasket and the top of the outer end of the float. Now if understand this right Im looking at 1 1/2" on both of mine. I have no idea how this could have gotten this way. Any ideas? If they are off like Im understanding would this cause a lean or a rich condition?

Thanks
BH

I had the same thing with my mercruiser/weber/carter/edelbrock carbs. I figure running in rough water caused it. It happened to both motors and caused the motors to run rich. I would recommend using something more acurate than a tape measure to set them. I used a dial caliper.

Being that the float was low, your motor would starve for fuel at higher r.p.m. That means you found your lean condition you have been chasing....

Im confused here.....GO4BROKE is saying that it would cause a rich condition and you are saying it will cause a lean condition...Which is it?

Maybe I jumped the gun here. I am not an expert at Weber carbs. BUT, in other carbs. ( Holley, Rochester ) if the float is set too low, it will not allow enough fuel into the bowl. This will cause a lean condition. In your set-up diagram, is there also a setting for the floats upward travel?

What you are looking at does not have anything to do with the lean or rich running of the engine. The drop is just a base setting so that the needles do not drop out of the seats if there is no fuel in the bowls to hold the floats up. The upper measurement is the important one. The height measurement of the float is what regulates the level of fuel in the bowl which in turn has an effect on fuel mixture. A high float settings translates to a richer mix. A low float setting means a leaner mix. Your spec sheet should also have a setting for the float height. This is done by holding the airhorn upside down and measuring the distance between the float and the gasket. A drill bit of the proper diameter works well as a gauge. Good luck.

Yes and It is right on. Why then is the drop setting need to be checked? I mean at 1 1/2" the needles still wont come out. If I picture the floats correctly wont the drop effect how much fuel the floats allow into the bowl? So how does the "upper measurement" work the floats to effect the fuel..
