The end of last season I was having problems getting the fuel pump to prime. I would have to keep turning the ignition switch on and off until I could hear the pump pick up fuel, sometimes several minutes.
This seemed to only happen after boat was trailered a good distance or after it sat for an extended period of time.
I thought maybe the vibration of being on the trailer was draining all the fuel back into the tank. Could this be or is the pump on its way out? I dont think there is a filter outside the pump.

Check your connections. You're getting air in the suction side. Once the pump primes it should stay primed. Like sucking through a straw and putting your finger over one side, the liquid will stay in the straw.

Ill check the connections but Im not seeing or smelling any fuel in the boat. I thought it should stay primed as well. Could the vibration when its being towed, and not running, brake the vacume and bleed back to the tank?
It only started this last year but there where alot of variables. Ill have to see what it does and what the conditions are this year.

Can the Aeromotive pumps be rebuilt or do you replace them?

The air leak can be internal to the tank. I've had air leak where the pickup tube meets the fitting at the top of the tank and cause all sorts of badness. Runs fine when topped off then runs lean when the fitting has no fuel surrounding it.

First off it should be mounted below the tank, or at least half way down .

Second, The minimum fuel line supply line should be 1/2 '', Aeromotive would rather see 5/8"

3rd, Return line should go to the tank, not the merc fuel/water separator, and especially not to a "T" on the inlet side of the pump!!!

The pump is mounted on the floor next to the motor which is as low as it can reasonably go so I think Im good there.
The supply line is 5/8 I believe, Ill have to double check this weekend.
The return line I have know idea right now.

How do I check to see if there is a leak?

Had the same problem, needed to replace, it was internal .

Mine are well above the tank with no problems with priming. Do you have twins? switch with the other???. Also remember aeromotive has had problems with these (a1000) coming apart inside. It could be it's in need of re-building

I guess I can expect this to get worse.
Are there rebiuld kits available or should I just buy a new pump?
With all the drive work I havent turned the motor over yet this year. Hopefully this week.

Just send it to Aeromotive. I believe it's $190 for a complete rebuild with the new pump motor.
