The tooling for the 6.5 motor is now owned by AM General.
That's why it's expensive.
He should talk to AMG because the 6.5 had an oiling problem they fixed after they got the tooling. Try to work a deal.

First I would not do this but I know a guy who did.
Take the motor out of the Hummer have it on a stand because you going to need the engine crane. Go rent a truck with the same motor and start swapping, then drive the blown up truck back to the rental place. The guy I know got a 24k mile motor for $29.95. The hard part is getting that engine his was just a 350 truck motor.
