? For You Audio Wizards (Jon)

I have a Clarion AM/FM/CD, ( in the boat ), Not sure of the model #, 515 audio pro, I think. Problem is if I turn the volume up over 18, the unit acts like it has a circuit breaker built in. It will play for a few seconds, then it shuts down for a second or two, then come back on.
Can anyone explain what's going on? And what can I do about it?
Thanks!!!

from my experience that is a low volt condition, can you put a DVM on the power leads going into the stereo and make sure the
Voltage does not drop below 10. volts , I found this same condition on many boats and cars either installed with wrong wire sizes or just a bad connection.
Its still possible that its some power or amp chip problem inside the stereo.

Both these guys have real likely sollutions. First I would put a ohm meter over the speaker terms and test them (you have to disconnect the wires to do this. If they all test ok then I would check for voltage drops (this is what my money is on) but you still should fallow test procedures
