Yea I know it is not marine approved. I have ran one an open engine compartment for 3 yrs and now more 2 yrs in an enclosed. No trouble. Hope I did not jinx myself.

Don't worry about the box. It's fully potted so there is no risk of sparking.

Ya. I have used a regular 6a as well. The only difference is color of the box and the connections. They have 3 rubber rings that act as gaskets for the connections.

Thats all I use and they work great ,there is a nother big difference the rev limiter is external on the marine and the limiter
works faster so its not as noticable as the 6al (no big deal )
USE the 6AL and blaster 2 coil

I use MSD 6T's with soft touch rev controls and blaster coils. Work real good.

6t's and 6al's are both good ,6 AL's are the most used I think

I was concerned, like you, about the 6AL...

I called MSD direct and they told me that while the unit was internally covered completely in resin, the connections inside are not. This will cause corrosion internally and eventually failure. Their suggestion was to seal the basic wire openings, yet leave the riveted side down for water drainage. Sealing it completely would hold the moisture inside causing more corrosion.

My concern, in the event of failure, is you can't see how bad the connection are getting and replace them before they fail... You will be stuck with our pants down.

My problem will be replacing it for $500+ (unit and rev limiter). Wait and be stuck or replace it when the budget will allow it????

Looking for advice also....
