Burining oil...Best place to buy new motor?
#1
The 4.3 Seems to have a bad valve stem seal, burns oil onstart up, then gets better when it is warmed up. So, where is the cheapest place to get a NEW GM 4.3 Vortec? I just need the motor, already have Flywheel/exhaust/starter/alternator/powersteeering/mounts.
Thanks,
Tommy

If it is just vavle seals you can do that without pulling the motor. Pretty easy in fact.

To many hours on it, What do I do when my rings start to go? Not worth it, full rebuild would be a good 1000$, plus pulling it and unhooking everything, then putting it all back together. I wanted to get some more power out of it anyway, so why not just get a Vortec.
MoPower, By the time I could afford the motor, exhaust, and all the other things that I would need, It would just be smarter to buy a different boat. Plus I dont have a good 6k for just parts.

There is no need to replace the engine if the valve stem seals are bad. You don't even need to dissassemble the engine to replace them! Pull the valve covers off. Take a piece of 1/4" rope and stuff it through the spark plug hole. Shove in a good 2' of rope. Now rotate the engine by hand until it jams. Remove the rocker arms and take a valve spring compressor and remove the keepers. Pull the springs off and you're looking at the seal.
Remember, you could put a 144 blower on it for alot less than replacing the whole motor.
