Default 540 STD deck or Tall Deck?

Any real difference in the two. I have two 502's that I was thinking of having changed into 540ci engines. Any problem with doing that or is it a bad thing to do?

Bobby, if you use a long rod 6.385 will the pin be too far up into the oil ring land on a 9.8 std deck to run a 4.250 stroke? Would I be better with a standard length rod? Thanks Ironman.

Mine is now 4 years old & no problem to date with short deck. I had a height problem & the tall deck would have made me redue the boat engine cover.

sorry it took so long to answer it slipped by ,,,, we use 250 long rods in the 9.800 block and have no trouble ,and at normal 6k and below the standard rod 6.135 is great as well
either is a good combo ,but the longer rod is always recomended ,but barly in this case !!

BE SURE THEY HONE YOUR BLOCK WITH A TOURQE PLATE !!!!!
