32 Dominator Bravo Drive Toe-IN
#1
Dave,
Drove Donnie Bush's 32 the other day and the boat seems to want to dart side to side when cruising. Steering is very touchy, actually a little scary to me. I said something about it and he say's you have to get use to it. Doesn't seem right to me.
I measured the drives and showed about 1/8" toe-in. I know all boats are different but what toe-in do you guy's usually recommend?
Thanks, Larry Huddle

Rick,
I have a 1999 288 Intimidator. Love this BOAT!!!, best handling single I've ever owned. Wife and I drove alot of boats that year before we purchased the Sunsation from Extreme Offshore Marine in Havre de Grace, MD. Drove her in March of that year in heavy chop and said "This is the Boat". By the way Mike and Susan of Extreme Offshore run an excellant dealership.

Hi! Larry:
I have a 32 Dominator and It tracks like it is on rails at cruise speed. If I run loose for high top end and over trim, I can get some chine walk which will stop as soon as I tuck the drives in a little. I have external steering and have my toe in at about 3/16 and it works for me. My steering is very solid and feels safe. There must be another problem causing the feel you noticed. The owner should give them a call. I'm sure Barry could answer any questions. They are a great company.
Good Luck.

Larry, Is your 288 Supercharged? If so What are you running for boost and speeds???
I am running a 2002 288 Procharged 502 at 6 lbs of boost, and seeing around 81-82 MPH with a 28 pitch bravo 5200 RPM. But she kinda gets squirly/chine walks at those speeds. Going to try a hydomotive prop this weekend. The boys there seem to think there prop will get rid of most of the walking, and I'll get better speed, they claim this with experiance with the 288 Sunsation hull??? We'll have to wait and see

Claude, Yes my 288 is supercharged. Running about 4 lbs. boost in the box (800 Nickerson carb) and 28P Bravo I. I've only pushed her to 5000 RPM a couple of times but on about 1-1 1/2' of chop she was at 78 MPH GPS. Had the drive tucked and was very stable at that speed. 78 MPH is fine with me, I have my fuel alittle on the rich side and the timing at a very conservative 28 DEG., I just use her for a high speed cruiser. I tried a 29 Hydromotive Quad IV that a friend had - way to much stern lift for mine. Larry

Thanks for the Info Larry, Yes my Prop guy said the same thing about a hydomotive on my hull would give more stern lift than the Bravo, thus making my chine walk worse. Glad to hear someone tried it with the same results...
Probably will stick with my Bravo one and get a spare as well.
