Left a message and an e-mail at gaffrig, no response.
Have a couple of trips planned and hate to be without it.
It worked fine last year, now only works for a min. when
you start or just turn the key on.Then stays at 1.2
Motor was pulled to do a coupler, cant see why this
would matter. The puck is intact. Any ideas?

Check out a thread by Raging Bull on 2 June in the Fountain section. I'll bet your puck has separated from the hull (even though it may not have broken completely free). You didn't say where it was located, but it must be in the engine box since you referenced the coupler work. Mine was located under the step going into the cabin and it kept breaking away from the hull.

Somebody could have stepped on it. Had a similar indication as Ranging Bull by mine read 0.8'...it was the puck.

Mounted mine in silicon caulking and had no more problems.

I called Gaffrig and they walked me through a test procedure with the boat on the trailer. You should give them a call. You're looking for a ticking sound in the puck with the transducer on. If you hear the ticking sound, the puck works...just not attached to the hull.

bet Tarheel is right, try regluing the puck down with new epoxy,

The puck is in the step, it broke lose last year and I
re-attached it with epoxy. I grabbed ahold of it and it
feels intact, May just have a bubble. What type of
adhesive did you use? I used a 2 part epoxy.

My 27 would do something similar. What I found was that Fountain had a screw from an interior panel screwed right through the wire going to the transducer. This is a small coax cable and I guess it would short out sometimes and not read at all. I tried unsuccessfully to splice the cable. Its so small I cant make it work properly. I gave up and bought another complete depth gauge/transducer kit. I have yet to install it. My puck is in the step also. It never has read correctly since I have had the boat. I was thinking that I would try to mount the new transducer in the engine room bilge. I know the step would aerate the water in this area while on plane and make it hard to get a reading but it never worked properly anyway. At planing speeds the area the puck is located in now comes in and out the water if there are any waves at all. At least with it in the back of the boat I could get an accurate reading at slow speeds.

Boat tech agreed, the puck may not be attached.
Well It was, took an hour to break it lose and glass
came with it. It was on there.
Any body have a tech # for gaffrig, I called them last year
and they were helpful. I left a message and an e- mail
recently and have heard nothing.
I heard you put it in a plastic bag full of water and it should
read. Mine still wasnt accurate. The tech said to use bondo to attach. I want to make sure it works befor I re-attach.
Taking a boat trip this weekend dont want to wing it.

wow, that puck was on there if it tore some glass off, hate to hear that, my boat had the same problem, but it is glued inside, I checked the puck it was tight, so I replaced the transducer[puck] it fixed my problem, they are most of the time cheap, around 30 to 60 dollars, just a pain to run the cable
