Default Water pump pulley removal...

Getting ready to replace the impeller (I have the whole kit with the housing).

Do I need to pull the pulley off or can I replace the housing without removing the pulley?

First time doing this so pardon the ignorance...I don't have a pulley puller/press but I guess I can run down to the auto parts store and grab one if removal is the only option...

Year 2000 502 MPI single serpentine belt.

Just undo the bolts at the aft end of the housing. Two bolts (?)pass through into the bracket attached to the engine. Take those two out first and drag the assembly out to replace the impeller. you do not need to remove the pulley.

That is what I was thinking but again, not having done this before, just wanted to make sure...My old boat was so cramped you had to take the entire back seat out just to get to it so I never had the patience to do it. This one is WIDE open!

Thanks!!!

It's moot as you don't need a puller to take the pully off.

Hey now don't drink all my beer buddy!

Oh and When I install my impellers I soak the crap out of them with a soap solution to get them in there and get em lubed up. I was told use anything from Dawn or palmolive.

See having a bigger boat pays off Millerlite!

Yes it does cap!!! I will use your soaking suggestion next time as it was a bit of a pain in the ass to get the impeller into the new housing.

Actually, the old impeller was still in decent shape. Had a nick or two and had lost a lot of it's rigidness but I was expecting much worse. Also, it’s a good thing I ordered the headers. I found a very small leak on the piece of crap merc manifolds. I have heard one too many stories about these 502's and the manifolds. Hopefully, the headers will come in soon but they are on back order...I hate those words! Merc builds a damn good reliable motor then puts this crappy manifold on it…go figure.

Is it beer thirty yet?
