OT: It Great To Own A Car Rental Company
I just had to post this.
A guy rents a car from one of my offices. Gets a little dent in the rear quarter. Takes MY car to his body shop a month ago. We just found out 2 days ago that the car was in a body shop and start to investigate. The body shop has MY car apart, cuts a section out of the quarter, mind you, I said a section, not the whole quarter and that's where they stopped. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the insurance company already paid the body shop close to $7000. Needless, to say I'm pissed. I call the insurance company and tell them that since their insured, the body shop and themselves all treated MY car as if it were there own, that they can now pay me for it and finish the job anyway they like. I can't wait to see where this goes. Twenty-three years in the rental business and I've never seen one like this. Sorry for ranting, just blowing off some after work steam.

I was in the rental business and the repurchase ( auction) business for years and have seen this before. Be careful, if the car is going to be turned back as a program car and the "cut and weld" is uncovered it will be inelligible according to the Ford program (being a unibody) and they won't buy it back, it has been my experience that no matter how good the work, if you pull down the trim in the trunk you can see where the repair was made, good luck: Matt

You're absolutely right. No way this car is going back to Ford.
I flip around 600 cars a year and this car WAS a Ford Repurchase Unit. That's the reason why I'm so pissed and trying to get the insurance company to buy the car. Otherwise, I have to fight them for diminished value, which is always a pain. Either way, the insurance company will buy the car or I will sell it at auction to determine the diminished value. At this point Ford would have repurchased the car for approximately $15,500 without prior work. A clean one with no paint work with the same mileage is bringing approximately $10500-$11000 at auction. So, we'll see how this pans out, but somebody other then me is going to be about $5000 in the hole. With the size of my fleet and having 3 of the 4 locations in Philly, the other one in the suburbs, the Philly cars take a beating. I have a guy that does nothing but claims all day.
Unfortunately, we're quite experienced when it comes to the insurance companies and buyback programs.
