Question about SS#3
#1
Just had both #3's rebuilt, one was destroyed
and the other needed bearings shims and
seals. Just wondered what was the going
price for rebuilding them. I think I may have been hit
a little hard.
Thanks

It is not unusual to spend 40 hours on a complete SSMIII during a rebuild (upper and lower). They are very time consuming to set up right. I can assure you that nobody makes money rebuilding them. The parts are ridiculously expensive and only have a standard 40% cost mark up. I have rebuilt quite a few of them and they are always a challenge. What did it cost you?

Well, I could have spent another 2700 if Mel would have changed the upper gear set so I don't think the guy is out of line. I don't run my boat hard so after discussing the situation with Mel he thought the upper set would be fine. Yours were probably bad and that would account for the difference in price. I think you did ok.
