Cool OE Roller Hyd Lifters/168731

Will OE GM Gen VI Hyd Roller Lifters, pushrods and pushrod guides work with a Crane 168731 (max lift .610)?

Thanks

no, you need the CRANE long travel lifters.
From what I'm told.

Thumbs down

Called Crane Tech and was advised the OE Roller Lifters would NOT work because the TIE BAR would hit
Tie bar on Gen VI lifters ?????

Does Merc use the OE lifter in the HP500?

If you go to the Crane site, any hydraulic roller with more than .335 lobe lift requires long travel lifter to prevent the lifters from dropping "BELOW" the stock GM guide bars.

I'm running a 500HP crane cam, max lift .597, in my gen6 454 mag with stock roller lifters. Clearances seemed fine and motor has about 25 hours on it with new cam.

Interesting topic,...I`ve always been told that the max lift you can run with the stock GM lifters/dog bones on a Gen 6 is .559 ?????

0.335 x 1.7 = .5695
Don't know if that is right or wrong but when I redid my cam I figured a couple hundred hours on the old lifters so go ahead and change em.

Rick,
I have tried both. I run a Comp Cam with .3677 lift (.625) on the exhaust in my 502 GEN VI and there was no problem with the lifter hitting the "dog bone" retainer, at all!!
The lifters don't drop to far down either.
I called both Comp tech line and a GM High performance parts dealer and was told by both that the GM roller lifters would work fine & they were right!!
The OEM design is much better than the retro-fit link bar design!
Do you already have the cam? You could purchase one lifter and the retainer and try it. I would call JimPace GM High Performance :www.paceparts.com .
That way you can check for your self!

I've got the same cam in a Gen VI block, stock roller lifters and push rods. I was told it would work and it does. Took some measurements everything looked fine so I went with it about 20 hrs and every things cool.

Bottom line is that with the cam installed, you should drop a lifter into its bore and spin the cam to the high and low sides. If the top of the lifter body does not drop below the top of the locator plate (dogbone), then I'd say you're fine. The other issue would be to make sure the polished OD of the bottom end of the lifter does not get too close to dropping under the lifter bore.

I like the idea of those style lifters over the bar style.
