BAJA 1997-98 Blisters issue
#1
Been told by a Baja dealer that 1997-98 Bajas had a major blistering issue... When I purchased my 232 last year, they had two 25 outlaws and one H2X with the problem (all 1997 boats). Any supp. infos on that?
I found a 1997 29 outlaw with a good price but I do worry.

I never had any blisters on my 1998 24 O/L. In terms of a 1997 29 O/L - I would not only worry about blisters but also about stringer issues. Many report no issues at all but many report issues like the one shown in the picture. This area of the 29 O/L was re-designed mid year 2000.

I looked at a 98 322 and it was loaded with blisters.I talked to a fiberglass guy,he went and looked at it and said if you want to fix it right it'll be about 10k,I'd have to pull the drives, get the boat hanging in the air and strip the bottom, then let it set for a couple weeks to dry out, then re gel the whole bottom from the water line down. I could not believe all the blisters on that boat I think the correct term is boat pox.

There were many problems in this area and it was not isolated to just Baja. Gel has changed over the years. I remember leaving my boats in the lake all summer and not thinking twice about it back in the 70's.
The problem with Baja turned out to be that the cleaning process with the spray guns was not done correctly.
I believe they were good to correct the problems with original owners.
Could be wrong, but I would think that a boat built at that time that has not already blistered probably will not.
Just be careful and get them surveyed.

We had a 98 322 put almost 500 hours on it before we sold it in 02, no blisters at all, a few stress cracks, but that was about it. And as far as the stress cracks go we do our boating in So Cal, 95% salt water, when you get air off of 5 'to 6' swells, that happen's.

Our 97 272 had some blisters where it sat on the trailer bunks. I discovered them when I jacked the boat off the trailer to wax it.
We bought the boat new and Baja covered the repair 100%
We were quoted upwards of 7k to fix the boat.

Money well spent,,,, considering it wasnt mine !!!!!!!
