Default Man Drowns in Lake Travis --Devils Cove

The search for a man believed drowned in Lake Travis is postponed until Monday. The incident happened Saturday afternoon in an area known as Devil's Hollow. Witnesses say the Hispanic man in his late 20's jumped off his boat for a swim but never resurfaced. Authorities say the water in that area is 40 feet deep.

Roger Wade of the Travis County Sheriff's Office said: "Devil's Hollow is a very popular place for partyers. People come from across the state to anchor their boats and have a good time. It's a great place to go, but people have to realize that the lake is very unforgiving."

The search won't resume until Monday because of heavy boat traffic in the search area.

Rescue crews also responded Saturday night after two boats collided in the dark. Around 8 o'clock on Lake Austin near the Pennybacker bridge, two craft crashed, leaving several people injured including a child who lost an arm. Five out of the seven passengers were sent to a local hospital.

--Heard about it this weekend. I dont know many details, but a friend said he saw the guy passed out on his boat, he got up, put his shirt, pants, shoes on and walked into the water. They called off the search on sunday because of too much boat traffic.

That is sad. It sounds like they were concrete shoes.

I grew up in Austin, been to Devils Hollow more than once. Learned how to scuba dive in Lake Travis (really nasty, too many freaking catfish), and spent many an AquaFest on Lake Austin. Very tragic......

We also live in Austin, and we go to Devil's Cove alot. There are alot of people out there that go swimming without a flotation device. We ALWAYS have a float or a noddle.

I have been in a raftup and seen people swim by. If they don't have a flotation device, I throw them a noddle. Sometimes I get it back, sometimes I don't. But, I would rather lose a $2 noddle than to have someone drown.

Clay

Im going to start swimming by your boat, so i dont have to buy noodles anymore

not to be mean, but there are way too many people that are too drunk to swim jumping in. I always try and keep a look out for people in my boat, but 2-3 minutes, something can happen and before you realize it, its done.
