After reading about multiple boating accidents this year, it appears that many have one or more of the following ingredients:
1)Speed
2)Alcohol
3)Darkness
4)Lack of PFDs

Just a thought, perhaps we can learn from other's misfortunes....

You can add lack of experience also.......

Ingredients 2, 3, & 4 while doing # 1 is usually the problem. I don't think speed, done in the responsable way is a problem.

I agree and I'm sure the Insurance Company does also that is why next year rates will go uP again! I was already told they are going up again

In fact I would put "lack of experience" at the TOP of the list. There are many boaters on the water that simply do not understand ANYTHING about boater safety. Jet Ski operators are (in my humble opinon) the LEAST experienced because HALF OF THEM don't even own the damn thing.

When my father took the Power Squadron boating course, he asked the instructer what to do to be safe at night on the water. The instucter said " Don't go out". Good advice. As much as I like being out after dark, it is very dangerous. I've passed boats sitting out with no lights on, so close I could reach out and touch them.

You can add BRAVADO to the list I think
