Do you think life vests should be mandatory?
I would prefer life vests remaining optional. They are a good idea and should be encouraged but not required.
I would like there to be an emphasis on wearing kill switches. That would protect all of us more than the jackets would.

Dan,
I'm gonna say yes to this for a couple reasons...1) Getting the crap kicked out of me following boat wakes really opened my eyes to the ejection possibility...for everyone on board and 2)I've knocked myself silly hitting the water at about 50 mph off my jet ski and came to appreciate the protection and flotation.

I'd rather see it be left optional,but to strongly advise them to be worn at all drivers meetings.On the run to Hammond they were needed
,and should of been worn,However, the run to Mi. City had flat water ,and I would like to see the decision left up to the participants.
Even though I ALWAYS wear the kill switch lanyard,this to ,needs to be strongly advised at the meetings,but left optional.
Of course the main reason I wear mine is,I want to make sure the boat stops,otherwise my wife might grab the wheel, turn around,and run my ass over

The kill switch should be manditory. I think the PFD should be optional but highly recomended at certain times.
I should've had mine on on our Hammond run. For some reason it never crossed my mind. Maybe I was too worried about the pork chops and the bag of potato chips they had just fallen on.
I did have the kill switch hooked up though.

I would like to see the life jackets left optional.
As for the kill switch I believe that they are all ready manditory in Illinois, correct me if I am wrong, I know for a fact that they are in Michigan and Illinois on inland waterways. If that is the case if and you are stopped you could be ticketed.

I am all for wearing the PFD during the poker runs
we make it Mandatory during SOTW for both safety and insurance purposes
We also put them on when the waves get over 4' on just a normal day of running our boat
we had a guy in our run a couple of years ago hit a roag boat wake (lake was flat) and he and his wife bounced in the cockpit he crashed into her with his body and drove her thru the cabin door
if it weren't for his lanyards he would have been in deep do do and the life jacket save him from breaking his ribs and certainly had he been pitched out it would have been a good thing
this same guy wrote a letter to the editor that was published in Powerboat Magazine on this very subject stating that the rules saved him big time at our event
the question he responded to was "are life jackets a necessary at poker runs ?"
I don't always were mine but i think it should be mandatory at all poker runs
Remember My partner in SOTW is an insurance guy and the liability without this stipulation is tremendous
