Anyone have thoughts about this hull? Is the aluminum tough enough and durable for high speeds like that? What would be the drawbacks? Special permit to tow a boat like that because of width or is the angle making it not too wide to tow? The canopies look a little yellowed...how to replace?

I was thinking the same thing Cord!! That sure would be sweet. I can't imagine how loud it would be as the whole boat is aluminum? Would need to coat it with rubber or something to reduce the noise/sound that's for sure. Looks like a fun project though!!!!!!!! Any thoughts?

It would be really noisy! Think of the wave slap on a alumium row boat! Now try pounding that at 100! With some big blocks behind you! Hearing protection for sure! If I had the money to finish it, I'd buy it! You won't ever have to worry about some jet ski center punching you!

we where in New orleans when they raced it there 90-91 I think. In front of the board walk stood it straight up and came back and broke one of its drives.i think it was a 4 engine boat with speedmasters back then .he still finished the race . It was so rough that day me and a coast guard boat were the only spectaors on the water that sunday.I rember the avarage speed was 105mph. Stan with Popeyes knows about the Cuvs they use to run one.

Bandit racig is a 41' CUV. BANDIT RACING PIC I've seen it run off pt pleasant beach, and it flies. Twin big block blown olds motors, and #6 drives. It has done 130.
As for durability, i think the rivets eventually loosen up. I think someone mentioned that bandit may have been sold for scrap??? Sharkey may have said that??? not sure. bad way for a boat to die.

Dirty Laundry had more compression than the Liquidmetal/Gifford/Bandit....... It loved to carry its bow high ...and out ran all of the 40' Skaters at that time.
BUT...it had Harold Smith as crew chief and set up man...and.... it had Mercruisers on the transom....for up trim. So it is lacking two BIG reasons for its earlier success.
Keith Eickhert built the engines back then as well.......
It was a real rocket ship in its time....nothing faster.
